At the Dwell Design Convention

Dwell Design Convention
Design goods and prefab modern modular homes! There were rows and rows of vendors showcasing designer goods and innovative concepts. Flux chairs caught my eyes because they are colorful and fun shapes, lightweight and easily fold flat into an envelope shape (see column one, row two).  I was dazzled by the modern modular homes of California company Living Homes. (see column three, row two, outdoor patio)They offer modern homes that are attractive yet affordable, and the best part is they are built in a factory and delivered right to you. The convention opened my eyes to infinite possibilities of designs.

Spending Time with Dads

Happy Father's Day! My family gathered yesterday to celebrate father's day cruising around the marina, picnicking. It was pleasant to be out in the ocean with family sharing stories and laughter, and experiencing the moments of terror with dad's near boat accidents. Bill, my husband's family lives in Ohio and the photos with my father in law were taken when he came to Los Angeles about 3 weeks ago. We took turns peddling a bike around Newport Beach, luckily I got to sit out most of the time.

Thanks dads for sharing moments with us!

Day at the Getty

Getty Museum - Suspended Frames
Art, Landscape, and Activities at the Getty

We arrived at the Getty and were greeted with voguing from colorfully styled Sweat Spot Dancers. Courtyard was full of people striking poses making the place electric. It was Family Festival, a day full of fun activities for the family like suspended frames capturing the landscape and us! Then we headed over to the Herb Ritts exhibit and relived the era of 80's fashion. Who knew he was behind so much iconic fashion imagery of the time.

Simple Korean Egg Custard

Steamed Egg Ingredients

Prepped Egg in the Pot Ready to be Steamed

Steamed Egg!

I love simple dishes that taste good and fill you up. This is one of those. This is a Korean style steamed egg called gyeranjjim. I say this dish is good for any meal of the day. Another wonderful thing about this dish is you can customize to your taste. I added mushrooms but any other vegetables can be added such as carrots, zucchini, corn, peas and many more including meat. Try it out and share your modifications.

Ingredients
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water, plus more for filling pot
1/2 scallion, chopped
1/3 cup of chopped mushroom
1/4 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Directions
1. Whisk the eggs, mushroom and add the water & salt and mix well. Pour egg mixture into heat proof bowl and place the bowl in a large pot filled with water. Making sure the water level is no more than 3/4 up the heat proof bowl. Close the lid of the large pot to steam.

2. Steam the egg custard covered for 15 minutes on medium heat. Add the scallions and sesame seeds and steam for an additional 5-7 minutes.

Serve hot. Enjoy!

These  photos capture the imagination. No Photoshop here. Artist Berndnaut Smilde actually created these clouds with a fog machine, carefully balancing humidity and temperature to create these fluffy clouds that last mere seconds before dissipating. Their surreal presence has transformed the rooms into magical places where reality and dreams meet.

Detective Mau

Mau sniffs a curious object.  And so begins the day.

My cat Mau looks playful in these photos, but she was extremely sick over the weekend. She thew up for a whole day and couldn't even keep water down. It's so heart wrenching to see her in pain and the only thing we could do was to keep her off her food for 12 hours. We are suspecting she might have a stomach virus.  Fortunately she has fully recovered today and is eating as she used to. I'm so happy and relieved. I'm sure pet owners out there can relate.

Happy Doughnut Day! Light, Fluffy and Delicious!

Pain Au Chocolate and Almond Lemon Croissants From Baguetier

Afternoon Tea and Dessert

Happy Doughnut Day! Being a doughnut day I had to post something sweet. These croissants are from a little artisan bakery called Baguetier in Huntington Beach. Don't they look delicious? They are fluffy and light with wonderful lemony sweet flavors and dark chocolate buttery flavors. Light delights that kept us happy until the next day for our afternoon tea.
