Here's a photo recap of what happened at Unique USA this past weekend. I debuted my new clay necklace collection at the Unique show and it was received really well. Yay!!! My family and friends come to visit and cheer me on. Thank you everyone who came by! I even ran into a customer who was clad in my glass bubble jewelry from another store. Many people showed up to shop filling the space with great energy. Finally I want to thank my husband for making the show come true.

Holidays are upon us. For this season I designed holiday cards with a theme of cat. My cat Mau is the inspiration for this collection. I thought about what would be the her ultimate holiday festivities -- this is what I came up with.

Hy Jewelry at Pasadena Museum of California Art
I have lived in LA for over a decade now and am still discovering new places. I guess that's the beauty of living in a big city. Recently I came to know Pasadena Museum of California Art through Susan Wang. I met Susan at Unique USA Show and she curates Pasadena Museum shop. This is a museum that excites you from the parking lot. When I visited there for the first time I was welcomed by the vibrant Kosmic Krylon Carnival mural in the parking lot, by Kenny Scharf. You can't help but to get excited to be in a space full of colors and wacky illustrations. I was there to deliver my jewelry to the museum store for the opening night and to see art. Susan has given me a space in the shop to create my own display and encourage me to share and promote my jewelry. After the set up, I got to preview Stas Orlovski: Chimera - projections of the 18th and 19th century moving drawing where histories, events, and dreams magically come together to create a world of its own. I stood there mesmerized by beautifully illustrated images come to life. Needless to say, go check it out! When you are there, stop by the museum store and check out my jewelry too.

Our Mau
I am glad it's today because our Mau is attacking our feet again. She's been very sick with IBS and it became very serious to the point where she stopped eating completely. Our vet helped as much as she could but at the end she told us she was out of options. Seeing my cat of 14 years suffering and not being able to help was a truly painful and heartbreaking experience. Good news is we were able to help her by syringe feeding her to ignite her appetite, along with a change of diet and medicine. She's eating again. We were ecstatic when she started attacking our feet again! Even though it hurts, we really missed her old feisty self. We are monitoring her and celebrating each breakthrough like her normal poop which after many months of diarrhea it's something to celebrate. Now it's time to give her hugs and kisses.

Hyjewelry Invasion
I can't believe it's been two weeks since Unique USA. I have been meaning to write about so many events following the show and time has escaped me until now. I am happy to announce two more great shops carry Hyjewelry! Each shop carries selected jewelry from my collections. Tiny Universe is a super cute boutique in Pasadena, California, nestled in a beautiful London shop setting. This tiny store showcases an inspired collection of minimal design goods. My jewelry fits right in, and you can find and try on my jewelry here too. You won't have any problems finding a great gift here if you can resist getting something for yourself!
Treehuas is another great little shop celebrating its first two weeks grand opening with a 20% discount. Grab a coupon here. They have a range of unique products that will spark your shopping impulse. You may know the shop owner Saralynn through the VW vintage bus, which used to be her store on wheels until it burned down. Now you can visit Saralynn any time at her new Glendale, California location. You can find my new Dots collection there. Dots is my recent jewelry design that is hand molded and carved using clay. Happy shopping!

The Unique USA is Happening this Saturday!
It's countdown time and I am feeling the pressure. The Unique USA, originally Unique L.A is happening this Saturday high up in the downtown L.A. skyline and there's a lot to do. Compared to the last show at Long Beach, we are more involved with the booth design. Unique USA is design ground zero where people go all out on interior and product displays. I have to thank my husband for helping me out from the beginning. He's been working non-stop with the booth design. Our design has changed since the beginning because of limitations to our table space. You can see the rendering Bill did below. We had to simplify the design a lot for our space, and you can see the simplified version below too. Bill finished the frame last night, and I am excited to start painting and decorating the exterior. Thank you Bill!
My show's focus is jewelry -- expect to see a lot of new designs. I have been working with clay and now (surprise!) I have a clay collection of earrings, rings, and necklaces. I hope to meet you in person for the first time this Saturday and Sunday at Unique USA.
Do come. The designs, designers and the artistic crowds are things you don't want to miss. There is nothing quite like this show anywhere.

New Member of the Family
I am excited and happy to introduce Maddy, who we adopted this past Friday. We have been fostering her and a puppy we named Spaz for awhile now, and fell in love with them both. We weren't able to keep the puppy for various reasons, but happy and sad at the same time that she has found a good home that we helped pick. I am missing her right now. I have to admit, all this came about suddenly without any planning on our part. My husband and I happen to walk past a pet adoption on our regular evening walk... which means an animal wriggling into our home was just a matter of time! Prior to this I have never had a dog, therefore I thought fostering a puppy would be easy, naively thinking she will often be asleep. WRONG! I am little worn out but happy to have had a chance to care for them and to adopt our Maddy. She is calm and sweet in nature. Because of her history of abuse it's taking her time to be herself, and we have been slowly getting to know her. I must admit I was most ecstatic when I saw her smile for the first time after so many days of fostering her. It is amazing to see her personality blossom each day. Looking forward to every day with her.
These animals badly need homes to go to. I have fostered the dogs through Grace Animal Rescue Organization. All the supplies and food are provided by the Grace Animal Rescue, and all you need to give is love and care. It's work but they bring so much joy to a home.

Patchwork Show at Long Beach is Almost Here
I can't believe I am in the last week until the Patchwork Show. I've been busy making and planning for the show for the past few weeks. I am working on a few more items which I am excited to show off at the show. If you are in LA, I hope you will come out and join the fun. Patchwork show is a fun event with live music, food trucks, DIY crafting, and market full of handmade goods and it's FREE! What more do you ask for, right! Happy shopping!

Fun Wednesday
Last week we had to go to Pasadena for business so we made a day of it. Every time I visit Pasadena I am always impressed with the city. It's full of creative shops and restaurants, wide open roads, beautiful old trees surrounding impressive home etc.. We drove up to Arlington Garden and were greeted by the scent of orange flowers. I instantly felt calm and peaceful there. It's a mid-size public garden full of a great variety of rare and endangered California Natives and orange groves that are self sustaining. The garden is divided into sections, each section furnished with inviting chairs, benches, and tables surrounded by coordinated wild flowers, trees, and native plants. You can go through the garden in less than an hour but we ended exploring there for hours. It's such a magical place. If you ever need to get away in need for serenity, I highly recommend this garden.

Wheeeeee! Woodland Creatures are Here!
They are finally here at Hello Maupoo after much trial and error. I hand molded and painted these cute woodland creatures using paper clay. I love this clay for several reasons - it's non-toxic, perfect surface for painting, and it's lightweight. You don't have to worry about it pulling down on lightweight fabrics like t-shirts. They are playful and mischievous at times but always sweet. Take them along with you on your shirt, dress, bag, hat, or scarf. Of course they make a delightful gift!

Polenta, My New Favorite Food
It's been awhile since I posted a recipe and I think it's time I share one today, especially since I made a super delicious meal yesterday. My recent favorite food is polenta. Ever since I learned that I am allergic to gluten I have been experimenting with various substitutes. Polenta is great because it's easy to make and can be layered with any toppings or sauces of your choice. Luckily I had many vegetables stocked in the fridge to work from. I chose asparagus, shiitake mushrooms, yellow bell pepper, and onion for toppings. I like my polenta to be the consistency of porridge so I made it last to keep it from setting. Try it out for your next meal. I promise you will fall in love with it. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups cormeal - I used Bob's Red Mill Organic Corn Grits
6 cups of water
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1-3 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese
Directions:
{Caramelized Onions and Vegetable Toppings}
Ingredients:

6 cups of water
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1-3 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese
Directions:
In a medium sauce pan add 6 cups of water and salt and bring to a boil. Gradually whisk in the cornmeal. Reduce the heat to low and add butter and Parmesan cheese and whisk the mixture until it thickens to the consistency of porridge about 15 minutes.
{Caramelized Onions and Vegetable Toppings}
Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil
4 large shiitake mushrooms
1 yellow bell pepper
1 yellow onion
15 thin stalks of asparagus
1 garlic

- Stir the shiitake mushrooms, yellow bell pepper, and asparagus in the skillet and cook for 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste
- Add the vegetables on top of polenta and sprinkle Parmesan cheese.
